Freezing Cold Pike Session!

1st hard frost of the year... soooo bloody cold! But from what I've been told, that signals the start of the true pike season so I headed over the Bristol Avon to try and put one on the bank.

Despite the cold it was incredibly busy so it was a good call arriving early. I wasn't counting but at least 10 pike anglers walked past me while I was fishing...

Despite the cold, it was a great few hours on the bank ;)

An unexpected day off on Tuesday gave me the opportunity to go for a days pike fishing over the on Bristol Avon at Swineford.

I lost more than I caught! But it was a great day, I learnt some new skills 'twitching' sprats and catching jack pike on a float rod and covered some new water that I've not fished before.

All in all, fantastic fishing!

The weather has been all over the place recently, as has time and plans. But between things I managed to find 2 hours to fish the river! After an early morning blank the week before, I was interested to see how it fished...

As it turned out, pretty well! I had 10 or so chub, no monsters but plenty of fun. I also had a chance to try out my keepnet, the hope being it would increase the catch rate as released fish wouldn't spook the shoal. I *think* it worked ;)

With conditions looking perfect I decided to head over the to the River Avon in Bristol for a quick session before work.

I caught chub after chub, a dustbin lid bream and a trout - all in the space of a few hours ;)

My 2nd river session this season down on the River Avon at Swineford.

The fish counter at my local Tesco here in Bristol had done me proud bait wise: I'd picked up mackerel, sardines and a great looking herring.

As it turns out, the herring got me a fish on the bank!
