There's a wealth of information out there... you just gotta know where to look!
The river level info on the Environment Agency website has recently been moved to the catchily named River and sea levels for England website.
The good news is that the info is easier to read and mobile friendly!
I've been putting it to good use over the last couple of months to get an idea of the stretches of the Rive Avon I've been fishing over at Keynsham. There's two that are handy:
Latest river level information for: the River Avon at Keynsham RL
This is the Jack Whites stretch below the weir running in front of the old Cadbury chocolate factory.
Latest river level information for: the River Avon at Keynsham US
This is for the Crane stretch above the weir heading towards Swinford.
There's also information on the River Levels site:
Although the data is the same, it's displayed slightly differently and has some nice additions like maps and graphs.

Back on the Bristol Avon in search of a pike. Even with a hard frost and -5 temperatures predicted it was actually warm and sunny!
The action was very slow.... but I did manage to put one fantastic pike on the bank which looks amazing in the light.
Also the 1st time I've used my DSLR for video. I think there's a lot to learn, especially with regard to focusing and sound!

I managed to get out for a day on the Avon with my dad on Saturday.
The day started badly in that I managed to miss two runs within the first 10 minutes of fishing!
But it ended with an amazing monster pike... what a fish!

Tough session on the Bristol Avon over at Swineford... I got plagued by eel bites but eventually managed to get a couple of jack pike on the bank!
What wasn't good was the sheer amount or discarded fishing tackle and rubbish on the banks...
I filled a plastic bag with cans, drinks bottles, snack wrappers, plastic bags, luncheon meat cans, sweetcorn cans, about 20 metres of line, weights, hooks, jig heads... It was pretty disgusting.
And then i came across a bloody great knife! just chucked in the undergrowth. WTF?!
I know the river is used by people other than anglers but most of what I picked up today could only have been left by so called fishermen.
Please, please, please tidy up behind yourselves! Otherwise, you don't deserve to fish, simple as that. It's spoiling what is otherwise a fantastic stretch of river!
